Kepler is NASA’s first mission capable of finding Earth-size and smaller planets in the habitable zone of stars similar to our Sun.It is equiped with a photometer that is composed of just one "instrument", which is, an array of 42 CCDs (charge coupled devices). Each 50x25mm CCD has 2200x1024 pixels. This photometer is equivalent to a 95-megapixel digital camera (whew!).
Kepler was launched last March 6, 2009, for three and one-half or more years of mission.
